State and Local Legislative Committee and Programs

The Legislation Committee coordinates the development of Virginia PTA’s Legislation Program, provides the latest information on pending legislation dealing with issues of concern, and directs advocacy efforts to pass or defeat legislation as directed by the Legislation Program approved by local units and convention resolutions.


Locally, the legislative committee is familiar with the  Virginia PTA Legislation Program, monitors School Board and Board of Supervisors meetings, attends Leadership Training, District Legislation meetings and workshops, and contacts legislators. The legislative committee also has the local responsiblity to compile and send any suggestions for State Preliminary Proposed Legislation Program (PPLP) sent to the state chairman by March 1 each year


The 7th Annual Robinson PTSA Candidate’s Forum Very Successful

 

The Annual PTSA Candidates Forum was held Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Gold Cafeteria. The following Virginia General Assembly Delegate Candidates from the 37th, 40th, and 41st Districts attended: 

 

37th District        Candidate David L. Bulova (D)

                                    Candidate Christopher F. DeCarlo (I)

            40th District        Candidate Tim D. Hugo (R)

                                    Candidate Sue Conrad (D)

            41st District        Candidate Kerry D. Bolognese (R)

                                    Candidate C. Monique Berry (IG)

 

Both the Democratic and the Republican gubernatorial candidates had representatives in attendance:

 

For Democrat Candidate R. Creigh Deeds (D)

State Senator Chap Peterson

For Republican Candidate Robert “Bob” McDonnell (R )

Former State Senator Jay O’Brien

For Republican Lt. Governor Candidate William T. “Bill” Bolling:

8th District Republican Chair Mike Ginsberg


This was an excellent opportunity for students to receive their service hours. Parents and students were able to meet the candidates, and ask them some tough questions. Members from the SGA were Robinson Ambassadors to the candidates.

 

The forum was moderated by two members of the SGA, Hussan El-Yacoubi and Ian Stanchi, a U.S. Government teacher, Will Crawford and the Robinson PTSA President, Terry Matlaga Bell.   This is an annual event so mark your calendars now for next year: third week in October Robinson’s 2010 Candidate’s
